This is a 1978 album by Art Ensemble of Chicago member Lester Bowie. It joined with AEOC bassist Malachi Favors, Arthur Brythe (as), Phillip WIlson (ds), and Amina Myers (p,vo), and was recorded at a studio in Milan, Italy, in the same year. A1, with its gentle layering of melodies by trumpet and saxophone along with wailing piano, and B1, which opens with Myers' vocals and bright piano and develops into free-form improvisation in the middle of the track, the album is celebrate Bowie's deep love for gospel, R&B, soul, and New Orleans jazz, while at the same time taking a radical approach with his unique methodology. The musicality of Myers is a key player in this work, and it is no exaggeration to say that it is the heart of the work.
