Quest
Paolo Alto Records (US) 1984
PA 8061 (LP)
sleeve : EX(wear on corner.)
media : EX/EX(some slightly noise.)
This album features recordings made in New York in 1981 by a quartet consisting of Dave Liebman (soprano & alto flute), Richie Beirach (piano), George Mraz (bass), and Al Foster (drums), as part of a project organized by Japan’s Trio Records. The recording and mixing were handled by David Baker, with Toru Kotetsu of JVC serving as the cutting engineer. Highlights include A1, which develops from an evocative theme into a Brazilian-inspired rhythmic crossover groove, and B3, where Liebman’s alto flute resonates with an exotic, ethnic flavor. A superb work of contemporary post-bop jazz with refined, cosmopolitan sensibilities.
A1: Dr. Jelyll and Mr. Hyde
B3: Lonely Woman
