This is the 1957 album by the jazz saxophonist Lou Donaldson, also known as Mr. Aligator Boogaloo, who gained recognition by joining groups led by Milt Jackson and Thelonious Monk in 1952. Throughout his career, he collaborated with pioneers like Blue Mitchell, Horace Silver, and Art Blakey, contributing to sessions, and also left behind numerous rare groove classics in his own leader works. The album features a quintet with Donald Byrd (trumpet), Herman Foster (piano), 'Peck' Morrison (bass), and Art Taylor (drums). It includes a fusion of primitive Afro-Cuban beats and modern sounds, covering Duke Ellington's classic with a blend of uplifting bop and beautiful contrast between Byrd's trumpet and an adult mood jazz piece. From energetic bop to ballads, it offers an enjoyable listening experience. This is a domestic reissue released in 1990 as part of Toshiba EMI's "Blue Note LP Last Reissue" series.
