An album featuring four works by Italian contemporary composer Luciano Berio, who debuted in the 1940s with a style influenced by Bartók and Stravinsky. He later turned toward total serialism, explored electronic music in the 1950s, and in the 1960s produced numerous solo and vocal works. Circles is a 1961 musique concrète piece based on the voice of his wife, Cathy Berberian, and electronic sounds, collaged using magnetic tape. Sequenza is a series that began with I, a solo flute piece composed in 1958; III features a solo voice performance by Berberian, and IV is a trombone solo performed by Vinko Globokar.
