American pianist Mal Waldron, who has been at the forefront of jazz scene for almost 50 years, from the 1950s to the early 2000s, and whose astonishing jazz-rock album The Call, the first album released on the Japo label, is very popular in our shop, performed on this album with two of the French jazz scene's most gifted musicians, Doudou Gouriand and Michel Marre. From the long, spacious and improvised title track A1 to the ethnic jazz featuring Joel Allouche's tabla, all the pieces are wonderfully played, with their respective personalities interacting without clashing. Marre's trumpet is somewhat reminiscent of Miles Davis and Don Cherry.
