The original soundtrack to the 1967 film Sweet Love, Bitter, composed by American pianist Mal Waldron, who remained at the forefront of jazz for nearly 50 years, from the 1950s through the early 2000s. At our store, he is particularly popular for the astonishing jazz-rock album The Call, released as the very first title on the Japo label. The recording features Dave Burns (tp), Alfred Dreares (ds), George Coleman (as), Charles Davis (ts), George Duvivier (b), and Richard Davis (ds). From the main theme, reminiscent of Waldron’s classic “Left Alone,” onward, the album presents superb performances that blend perfectly with the film’s story, which was inspired by the life of Charlie Parker. The music vividly evokes the bustle and atmosphere of New York City—a true masterpiece from beginning to end. Original US pressing.
