Marcello Melis is an Italian jazz bassist active on the free jazz scene, having performed with Steve Lacy, Enrico Rava, Mario Schiano and others. The album was recorded in New York City with Lester Bowie, Don Moye, Don Pullen, Enrico Rava, Nana Vasconcelos, and other musicians. The long scale improvisation on side B is almost 17 minutes long, and the primitive percussion playing of Nana Vasconcelos and Don Moye gives it a more ethnic feel. The voice performances by Sheila Jordan and Jeanne Lee are also worth listening to.
