A 1986 album by Marco Käppeli Connection, led by Swiss drummer Marco Käppeli, who was active as a member of Impetus and also recorded collaborative works with Hans Koch and Martin Schütz. The lineup features Ruedi Häusermann (ts), René Widmer (as, bs, vo), Hans Koch (ts), and Thomas Dürst (b). The music is highly engaging, freely deconstructing and reconstructing early jazz and swing while pushing the material into more adventurous territory. There are moments that bring the Art Ensemble of Chicago to mind, though the overall atmosphere here is more contemporary, with particularly inventive ensemble arrangements throughout. An exhilarating and thoroughly enjoyable album from beginning to end.
