sleeve : EX-(IN SHRINK, CO, collapse on corner.)
media : EX-/EX-(some slightly noise caused by slightly hairlines.)
A powerful 1969 release from American saxophonist Marion Brown, who remained at the forefront of the jazz scene from the 1960s through 2000, leaving behind a wealth of remarkable recordings. The album features material recorded in the Netherlands in 1967 with bassist Maarten van Regteren Altena and drummer Han Bennink, both central figures in Amsterdam’s avant-garde scene at the time. From the very first track, the trio dives into fiercely aggressive improvisations. On A2, Brown’s deeply expressive phrasing is met with an equally intense rhythmic response, while the title track B2 opens with a tabla solo before erupting into a torrent of high-energy blowing — a breathtaking display of the 36-year-old Brown’s raw power and creative force. An outstanding document of his European period. U.S. pressing, 1975.
