This is a 1967 leader album by American saxophonist Marion Brown, who was at the forefront of jazz scene for a long time from the 1960s to 2000. Features Glaham Moncur III (tb), Bennie Maupin (ts), Alan Shorter (tp,fh), Reggie Johnson (b), Beaver Harris (ds), and Dave Burrell (p). The septet's unique blend of African ethnicity and intense interplay is evident in this gem of a session, which brings together musicians who were striving for innovation in the New York jazz scene at the time. The minimalist refrain of the rhythm section and the deep atmosphere of B2 in particular are ahead of Miles Davis. Highly recommended.
