This is the debut album by Masahiko Satoh, one of Japan's leading jazz pianists, who has been active on the front lines since his solo debut in 1969. This is a re-release from 1978 under the "Far East Jazz" series, featuring a different cover design. While Masahiko Satoh Trio's first release was a cover album of the theme song for the Yakuza movie "Yoake no Uta" in 1966, this album is considered one of his earliest full-fledged jazz works, alongside "Deformation". Recorded with a trio consisting of Yasuo Arakawa (b) and Masahiko Togashi (ds), all tracks are original scores by Masahiko Satoh, except for the Beatles cover A1. This is a wonderful album that demonstrates his sweet and excellent performance, primarily with modal arrangements, but also covering post-bop and free jazz, already blooming in his early stages. Yasuo Arakawa and Masahiko Togashi's playing is also incredibly cool.
