Water Under The Bridge

A 1984 mini-album by Mathilde Santing, who had been active as a singer since the 1970s, including work as a backing vocalist for The Tapes, before making her solo debut in 1982. Created in collaboration with composer and arranger Dennis Duchhart, this is the original edition, preceding the expanded ten-track LP released later the same year. The music is beautifully melancholic, blending a chamber-music sensibility with jazz and pop, and distinguished by a remarkably sophisticated sense of arrangement and atmosphere. There are strong affinities with artists associated with Belgium’s Les Disques du Crépuscule, as well as Japan’s dip in the pool. Santing would also later collaborate with Izumi Kobayashi.
