This is an album released in 1966 by Max Roach, an American drummer who has worked with a wide range of groups from the bop era of the 50's to ethnic groups such as the percussion group M'Boom. The album features a quintet with Freddie Hubbard (tp), James Spaulding (as), Ronnie Mathews (p), and Jymie Merritt (b), as well as Roland Alexander (ss) on one track. The entire album is utterly wonderful, including Roach's drum solos A1/A3/B2, the moody and groovy 7/8 time tune A2, blues jazz B1 with Alexander's pleasant soprano saxophone, and spiritual jazz B3 that expands the world of perspective. Highly recommended.
