McCoy Tyner, an American pianist who has been a core member of the John Coltrane Quartet since 1960 and has performed on such historical masterpieces as "Coltrane," "Ballad," "Love Supreme," and "Ascention. This is his leader album released in 1969. The album features Woody Shaw (tp), Gary Bartz (as,ft), Wayne Shorter (ts,cn), Ron Carter (b), Herbie Lewis (b), Freddie Waits (ds), and all original scores by Tyner except B3, this is a masterpiece that further developed the mode perfected by Miles Davis. It feel spirituality pursued in a different orientation from the free jazz stream. A2 is a supreme ethno-spiritual jazz that foreshadows later crossover/fusion music, while inheriting Coltrane's style.
