After 1960, American pianist McCoy Tyner, who had been a core member of the John Coltrane Quartet, showcased remarkable performances in historic albums like "Coltrane," "Ballad," "Love Supreme," and "Ascension." In 1962, he released his first leader album, featuring a trio with Art Davis on bass and Elvin Jones on drums. The album focuses on Tyner's original scores, as well as standard numbers and popular songs. It presents wonderful performances that highlight Tyner's youthful talent, including the lively and groovy title track "A1" and "B2." The album also features captivating ballad melodies on "B1," where the piano's tender and alluring tones enchant listeners. Personally recommended are the rhythmic and pleasantly Latin-infused vibes of "B3." The album was released in 1963 by ABC-Paramount.
