Michael Cochrane Quintet
Elements
Soul Note (Italy) 1985
SN 1151 (LP)
sleeve : NM
media : EX+/EX+(some slightly noise)

An album released in 1985 on Italy’s Soul Note by a quintet led by American jazz pianist Michael Cochrane, who has appeared on numerous works by Hannibal Marvin Peterson and has also performed with Pharoah Sanders. Featuring Tom Harrell on trumpet and flugelhorn, Bob Malach on tenor saxophone and flute, Dennis Irwin on bass, and James Madison on drums. Centered around straight-ahead modern jazz and hard bop, the album also offers slow jazz with an urban mood and elegant contemporary jazz touches. Nothing here is overly flashy, but the performances are full of mature charm and easygoing warmth. Recommended tracks include A3 and B3, which incorporate Brazilian rhythms, and the deeply groovy B4.

A3: Bossa For Quintet
B3: Proof of the Pudding
B4: Waltz No. 1
