Released in 1987, this album is by Austrian trumpeter and composer Michael Mantler, who co-founded the Jazz Composers Orchestra Association in New York with Carla Bley and went on to organize numerous remarkable sessions. The album features live recordings from the International Art Rock Festival in Frankfurt, Germany, where Mantler performed alongside musicians from the rock world including Jack Bruce on vocals, John Greaves on bass and piano, Don Preston on synthesizer, Rick Fenn on guitar, and Nick Mason on drums. An outstanding live recording filled with a strong sense of narrative, the music unfolds as sophisticated art rock in which jazz and progressive rock are fused on an exceptionally high level.
