WATT (Germany) 1974
WATT/2 (LP) Coated gatefold sleeve.
sleeve : EX(some very slightly dirts)

Released in 1974, this album is by Austrian trumpeter Michael Mantler, who co-founded the Jazz Composers Orchestra Association with Carla Bley in New York and helped bring numerous outstanding sessions to fruition. Featuring Don Cherry on trumpet, Carla Bley on piano, and Jack Bruce on vocals and bass, the work was created around a passage from Irish writer Samuel Beckett’s novel How It Is. It opens with Bley’s piano and a solemn, majestic chorus, then unfolds dramatically around Bruce’s spoken recitation. A masterpiece distinguished by its compelling, narrative-driven approach. Cherry’s trumpet playing is deeply emotional as well. German pressing distributed by ECM.
