The latest solo album by Midan, a Cologne-based German track maker/bassist whose father is Algerian jazz guitarist Djamel Laroussi, and who has also released a collaborative work with the Kochi-based lo-fi artist Ahnamusica. This heartwarming collection of lo-fi sampling music was inspired by Ie (House), a work by Shigenari Ohnishi, the Hokkaido-based sculptor/illustrator also known for album artwork for artists such as Herbie Hancock and Ryuichi Sakamoto. Midan was deeply moved by Ohnishi’s work during a visit to his private museum, Shige-chan Land, and the album beautifully reflects that encounter. A charming and warmly textured work that conveys a deep affection for Japanese music.
