Miles Davis joined forces with a brass orchestra for this album released in 1957. The orchestral arrangements were done by Gil Evans, and the album is a so-called big band jazz work, featuring music by Dave Brubeck, J.J. Johnson, Ira Gershwin, and others, as well as scores by Miles Davis and Gil Evans. The year was 1957, when hard bop was in its prime and Miles Davis and Gil Evans were gradually experimenting with modal jazz, so I can feel the record company's intentions on this one, but the gentle performance with less tension is pleasant. This is a sample reissue from 1977 in Japan.
