A very rare album released in 1979 by Percussion Group '72 featuring works by Minoru Kobayashi, a Japanese composer who started composing in the late 50's and won several awards in the 60's and 70's. The A-side, "Oniyo" was commissioned by a group in Kagoshima in 1975, and was created through a dialogue with Shujiro Umehara, a vocalist who was also a member of the Kagoshima City Arts and Culture Association. The B-side "A-Hun" is a percussion ensemble rendition of a Buddhist mantra, which, as its name implies, refers to the beginning and the end of all things. Here, too, five timpani create a world of sound as profound as the echoes of the earth. Highly recommended. 45RPM direct cutting from master tape.
