This 4 x LP box set, released in 1970, is a collection of works by Minoru Miki, a Japanese composer known as the musical director of the Ensemble Nipponia, which continues to pursue new possibilities in Japanese music, both in Japan and abroad, in an effort to sublimate the classics for the modern age. This compilation is a compilation of Miki's works up to 1970, including pieces combining Japanese instruments and string ensembles, shakuhachi solo, 20-string koto solo, Japanese instrument ensemble pieces, and a collaboration between the Tokyo Broadcasting System Chorus and the Nippon Music Group. Among the highlights are B1, a 20-string solo by Keiko Nosaka; B2, a shakuhachi sonnet by Katsuya Yokoyama, Masayuki Koga, and Kohachiro Miyata; E1, a shakuhachi solo by Katsuya Yokoyama; and E2, a tan poem on koto by Keiko Nosaka. Two thick booklets with details of the pieces, commentary by Fumio Koizumi, and scores for all the pieces are included, as well as a beautiful linen-patterned inner sleeve. The obi is stored inside the box due to possible tearing.
