Miroslav Vitous
First Meeting
ECM Records/Trio Records (Japan) 1980
PAP-9187 (LP) w/obi, insert.
sleeve : VG+(light dirts)
media : EX/EX(some slightly noise)

Released on ECM in 1980, this masterpiece as a leader is by Czech jazz bassist Miroslav Vitous. The quartet features familiar ECM musicians John Surman on soprano saxophone and bass clarinet, Kenny Kirkland on piano, and Jon Christensen on drums. Vitous is often associated with the deep jazz-funk of his 1976 album Magical Shepherd and his more free-oriented work, but here he delivers exceptionally refined and delicate contemporary jazz that represents ECM at its finest. From the double bass singing out in soaring, violin-like lines and the melancholy-filled acoustic piano and saxophone, to the richly expressive drums that surge and recede like waves, every element is flawless. Pure, one-hundred-percent ECM jazz.
Japanese pressing released by Trio Records, with obi and insert.
