A 2008 CD album by pianist Misha Alperin, who was born in an autonomous Soviet republic within the Ukrainian SSR. After forming one of Moldova’s first jazz ensembles in 1980, he moved to Norway in 1993 and became an active figure in Oslo’s jazz scene. This trio album features Arkady Shilkloper (French horn, flugelhorn) and Anja Lechner (cello). Alperin’s piano, played with an exquisite touch and a keen sense of space, is truly remarkable, while the compositions and ensemble work reflect a strong contemporary classical influence. A deeply engaging album—highly recommended in its entirety.
