This is the 1980 album by American jazz pianist Muhal Richard Abrams, one of the founders of The Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM). The album features recordings made in New York in the same year, with the participation of George Lewis, Wallace McMillan, Vincent Chancey, Bob Stewart, Leroy Jenkins, Brian Smith, Andrew Cyrille (per), Thurman Barker, and others. While evoking the unique African spirits associated with AACM, Abrams' remarkable talent as a composer is evident even in compositions that reflect contemporary musical sensibilities. Whether it's Abrams playing the synthesizer or Lewis on trombone, it's hard to distinguish in track B1, where a deep, rumbling bass drone resonates, creating an impressive sonic experience.
