In the seventies, Ndugu was a member of Santana, and after backed many artists across genres including George Duke, Patrice Rushen, Weather Report and Kenny Rogers, and became known worldwide for playing the distinctive drums on Micheal Jackson's "Billy Jean". The first album by Ndugu & The Chocolate Jam Co. was released in 1980. Using soul, funk, R&B and disco as formats, the band's performances, arrangements and sound production elevate black music into clear pop music. The urban contemporary grooves of B1 and B3 are great.
