An album released in 1982 by the Toronto-based percussion group Nexus, known for their collaborations with Paul Horn, Egberto Gismonti, and Enrico Rava. This release features performances of John Cage’s Third Construction (1941), Steve Reich’s Music for Pieces of Wood (1973), Bruce Mather’s Clos de Vougeot (1977), and William Cahn’s Changes (1981). Cage’s A1 stands out with its peculiar and strikingly playful character within its avant-garde framework, while Reich’s minimalist masterpiece A2 is, needless to say, superb. Also notable are Mather’s B1, which evokes a sense of Indonesian traditional music Gamelan, and Cahn’s B2, composed exclusively for metallic percussion such as cymbals and hi-hats
