Niels Thybo, a Danish pianist active since the mid-60s and a frequent collaborator with Karsten Vogel, released his first leader album in 1984. The quintet features local Danish musicians Jan zum Vohrde (alto sax, soprano sax, flute), Lars Togeby (flugelhorn), Henrik Simonsen (bass), and Henrik Simonsen (drums). The album presents an exquisite blend of contemporary jazz characterized by the unique clarity and refined sensibility of European jazz. Highlights include A1, which grooves gently with restrained tension, and A2, a samba jazz piece where the interplay between the light piano and flute is particularly enjoyable. Highly recommended for fans of ECM.

A1: De Chuva a Sole
A2: Samba Song
