Africa - Music of the Princes of Dahomey
Counterpoint/Esoteric (US) 196x
537 (LP)
sleeve : EX-(SOC, light dirts, light color-faded.)
media : EX/EX(some slightly noises.)
An album released on the Esoteric/Counterpoint label, founded by Bill Fox and Jerry Newman in 1949, most likely from the late 1960s. It contains field recordings of traditional music and folk music from the Dahomey Kingdom, which was located in what is now present-day Benin, Africa. The recordings feature enchanting chants with a pentatonic scale that may remind one of Japanese folk music, along with rhythms produced by simple, rustic percussion instruments. You can experience extremely primitive ceremonial music and playful sound exploration. Unique chants, such as the rhythmic singing in B7, offer a rather unusual auditory experience.
