This album was released in 1977 and is the second in a series of albums entitled "Visiting the Roots of African Music", supervised by the late Toyo Nakamura, a leading figure in the introduction of world music from around the world to Japan. The album contains a number of rare recordings made in Tanzania, Zaire, Zambia, Uganda, Mali, Mozambique and Cote d'Ivoire in the 1950s, just after the end of the Second World War. The simple sounds of xylophones and thumb pianos, polyrhythms, oral transmissions and drumming signal transmissions are all part of the charm of African folk music. The sound quality is also unbelievable for the 50s. All tracks are excellent.
