After moving to New York, Noah Howard recorded his first album in 1966, and since then has contributed to the promotion of free jazz with Archie Shepp, Albert Ayler and Frank Write. This is his leader album released in 1977. Recorded live at Berlin's Quarter Latin in 1975 with a one-horn quintet featuring Takashi Kako (p), Kent Carter (b), Oliver Johnson (ds) and Lamont Hampton (per). It's a white-hot show, with Howard's alto blasting alongside a percussive, groovy rhythm section and Kako's distinctive backing piano. A1, a cover of John Coltrane's classic 'Ole', also has a somewhat Latin feel.
