This album was released in 1977 as the third installment of the "Japanese Taiko" series released by Victor in the 1970s. It is a live recording of a dedication performance held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Emperor Showa's reign. The performance was given by the Nouso-kai, presided over by Yoshitake Aoyagi, who was a member of the Tokyo Cuban Boys and later became the chief priest of the Nouso-Hachiman Shrine in Iizuka, Fukuoka Prefecture. "Nouso" means "ancestors," and the performance features music written and arranged based on taiko rhythms that have been played in kagura (Shinto music and dance) and shishimai (lion dance) performances in the Chikuzen and Toyomae regions since ancient times. The soul-dancing, powerful performance is moving, reviving the n rhythms of traditional Japanese taiko and the sound world of the ancients that surges and flows with the echoes of the taiko.
