Born in Lagos, the capital of Nigeria, into a family of Yoruba heritage, Babatunde Olatunji is a percussionist from Nigeria who left behind numerous masterpieces, including Jin-Go-Lo-Ba. This 1961 album features a stellar lineup of 13 singers, along with musicians such as Yusef Lateef, Clark Terry, Montego Joe, and Ray Barretto. It includes live recordings from a 1960 concert held at the Village Gate in New York. The album offers a brilliant collection of deeply primitive yet groovy African dance music, rooted in Yoruba traditional music throughout. This is the original U.S. mono edition.
