Founded by percussionist Neguinho do Samba, Olodum is a cultural organization based in the Afro-Brazilian community of Salvador, the capital of Bahia, Brazil. They are also one of the leading groups of samba-reggae, a style that fuses traditional Brazilian samba beats with the rhythms of merengue, salsa, and reggae. This album was released in 1991. As with their previous works, the album presents dance music rooted in the indigenous percussion traditions of Africa, while absorbing and sublimating the musical cultures of the Caribbean, including reggae from Jamaica. On A2, Jamaican singer Jimmy Cliff surprisingly appears on vocals, bringing about a full-fledged fusion with reggae.

A2: Reggae Odoyà
A5: Canto A Iemanjà
