American pianist Onaje Allan Gumbs, who participated in Woody Shaw's group and Terumasa Hino's ensemble, and delivered an outstanding performance on Clint Houston's 1978 classic Watership Down, released this solo album in 1977 on Denmark's prestigious SteepleChase label. The album primarily features his original compositions, along with unique interpretations of John Coltrane's "Giant Steps" and Dizzy Gillespie's "Con Alma." Throughout, Gumbs delivers lyrical and melancholic piano solos, filled with fragile yet beautiful melodies, making this a remarkable work. Highly recommended. This is the first Japanese release, which came out a year after the original Danish pressing.
