A 1983 album by Oregon, the acclaimed ethno-jazz group formed by Ralph Towner, Collin Walcott, Glen Moore, and Paul McCandless. Released after the group moved from Elektra to ECM, it captures Oregon at one of their most mature and refined stages and feels like a record that was almost destined to appear on the label. Highlights include A3, a deeply spiritual ethno-jazz piece in which Paul McCandless’ flute seems to float through space while Collin Walcott’s percussion creates a remarkable sense of depth. Throughout the album, Oregon’s organic musical vision is expressed with exceptional clarity and balance. Another major attraction is the extensive use of the Prophet-5 analog synthesizer played by Ralph Towner, adding a subtle electronic dimension to the group’s acoustic sound world.
