An album released in 1972 by Ornette Coleman, an American saxophonist who, needless to say, influenced numerous musicians including Don Cherry as one of the fathers of free jazz. In this album, Coleman is joined by his close allies Dewey Redman (tenor saxophone, oboe), Charlie Haden (bass), Ed Blackwell (drums), and The London Symphony Orchestra conducted by David Measham, unfolding a grand orchestral music totaling nearly 42 minutes. Coleman's contemporary music orientation, which had already made a significant leap from his collaboration with chamber ensembles on the 1968 release "The Music of Ornette Coleman," is sublimated into an exceptionally high-level music that surpasses the emulation of other jazz musicians. It's captivating. Coleman's vision is shared with another close ally, Don Cherry, who also collaborated with Krzysztof Penderecki and Terry Riley. Highly recommended.
