The first album by Punjabi artist Paaras was released in 1992 on Multitone, a British label that released a large number of Bhangla beats on cassette from the late 1980s. This album is a perfect example of this. The format of Bangla Beat is based on the party music of the Punjab region of north-west India and north-east Pakistan, and is a fusion of hip hop, reggae and synth disco. This album is a perfect example of this type of music, with its cheerful shouting and upbeat party mode. It's a great way to experience a side of the 80s world music movement.
