Cuban singer-songwriter/guitarist Pablo Milanés, active since the early 1970s and known for his collaborations with numerous artists including Silvio Rodríguez, Joan Manuel Serrat, and Chucho Valdés, released this album in 1982. In his native Cuba, it was issued under the title Yo Me Quedo. Produced by Eduardo Ramos. The album belongs to Nueva Trova, the new musical movement that emerged across Cuba, Argentina, and other Spanish-speaking regions. Throughout, Milanés presents an elegant form of Cuban new music, drawing freely from Afro-Cuban traditions, jazz, folk, and modern classical sensibilities. A beautifully refined work with a broad, sophisticated musical palette. Recommended also for listeners drawn to Argentine folk/rock artists such as Litto Nebbia.
