A Swedish group consisting of Steffan Hallgren (flute), Hans Hallgren (bass), and Anders Rinnan (guitar), Pan Trioreleased this album in 1981, their only work ever issued on vinyl. Blending jazz classics by Dizzy Gillespie and Gigi Gryce with bossa nova standards by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Edu Lobo, as well as a few originals, the trio delivers a wonderfully light and engaging ensemble sound. The ethnic yet groovy flute—reminiscent of fellow Swede Björn J:Son Lindh—dances gracefully alongside fretless bass lines and delicate acoustic guitar melodies, creating a simple but deeply satisfying musical flow. The slower, more reflective pieces are equally superb. A rare and hidden gem that’s seldom seen in Japan. Highly recommended.
