Third World Sketches

A leader album released in 1984 by British saxophonist Pat Crumly, who was a member of groups like Dragon School and Edge in the 1970s and played with artists such as Kevin Ayers, Alan Price, and Kenny Wheeler from the 1980s onwards. This album features a sextet with Dick Pearce (tp, fh), Pete Seberton (p), Dave Green (b), Simon Morton (per), and Trevor Tomkins (ds, per). The theme of the album revolves around travels to the Third World, including Africa and the Middle East. It showcases powerful spiritual jazz on A1, dedicated to street children, inspired by indigenous people from Peru and Argentina on A2, and featuring motifs from African masks on B2. Throughout the album, Crumly beautifully blends ethnic essences to present an outstanding display of spiritual jazz. Highly recommended.
