This is the first leader album by American saxophonist Pat LaBarbera, released in 1976. Having risen to prominence in the 1960s as a member of Buddy Rich’s Big Band and later performing with artists such as Elvin Jones and Al Henderson, LaBarbera leads a quartet here featuring Richard Beirach (piano), Gene Perla (bass), and Joe LaBarbera (drums) — with Don Thompson (piano) replacing Beirach on side B. Rooted in post-bop yet pursuing a distinctly contemporary direction, this superb album showcases urban sophistication and deep spiritual resonance throughout. Recommended.
