A 1979 solo album by guitar virtuoso Pat Metheny, released on ECM. Metheny performs electric guitar, 12-string guitar, acoustic guitar, 15-string harp guitar, and electric bass entirely by himself, creating the album through extensive overdubbing as a complete self-performed work. Among Metheny’s many recordings, this is one of his deepest and most inward-looking, unfolding as a kind of inner cosmic music. Its hushed, spacious atmosphere also brings to mind Northern Song, the masterpiece by fellow American guitarist Steve Tibbetts, who likewise recorded for ECM. Simply outstanding.
