A 1983 album by American harpist Patrick Ball, who began performing after being deeply inspired by traditional folk songs he encountered in the Appalachian region of the eastern United States and in western Scotland. This is the second installment in his series devoted to the Celtic harp, an instrument associated with the traditional music of the ancient Celtic peoples of Europe. The album features old songs and dance tunes from England, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, and the Hebrides. Ball’s harp playing is exceptionally delicate and beautiful, with each melody unfolding in a clear, luminous tone. Although firmly rooted in traditional music, the album also reveals strong connections, from a listening perspective, to new age, minimalism, and environmental music.
