Released in 1978, this solo piano album is by Paul Bley, one of Canada’s leading jazz pianists. Active since the 1950s, Bley performed with the Ornette Coleman Quartet and the Jazz Composer’s Orchestra, while also leaving behind numerous masterpieces with his own groups. The album captures a solo performance recorded live at Axis in New York’s SoHo district in 1977. Following the radical experiments of Synthesize Show, an exceptionally unusual entry in Bley’s career, he returned here to the acoustic piano. Incorporating prepared-piano techniques, Bley delivers a superb performance in which melodies of singular beauty are spun with his unmistakable aesthetic sensibility. Japanese pressing released by Nippon Phonogram. No obi or insert.
