Paul Bley, one of Canada's foremost jazz pianists who has been active since the 1950's, has participated in the Ornette Coleman Quartet and Jazz Composer's Orchestra, as well as his own group, and has left behind many masterpieces. This is a quartet album featuring John Surman, Bill Friesell, and Paul Motian, all of whom I trust, and the atmosphere of fine melodies floating in the sound field is unique to ECM of this era. The Japanese pressing produced by Polydor in the mid to late 80's has a much different superb sound than the previous version. This is a rare copy, but the obi and insert are missing.
