A leader album released in 1973 on ECM by American drummer Paul Motian, best known for his participation in Bill Evans’ 1961 masterpiece Waltz for Debby and for his extensive work on countless session albums thereafter. The lineup features Charlie Haden (bass), Keith Jarrett (piano, flute), Sam Brown (guitar), Becky Friend (flute), and Leroy Jenkins (violin). From the opening track A1—where Charlie Haden’s bass and Sam Brown’s guitar weave together deeply lyrical lines—the album immediately hits its stride. Highlights include the taut, thrilling interplay of A3, which sustains a constant sense of tension, and B2, where Keith Jarrett’s unexpectedly earthy flute takes flight. A true gem that captures the spiritual, early-ECM sound, enriched with subtle ethnic nuances throughout.

A1: Georgian Bay
B2: American Indian: Song of Sitting Bull
