Formed around Simon Jeffes, the British composer who lived in Japan during the 1970s, Penguin Cafe Orchestra released this fourth album in 1984. Centred mainly on compositions by Jeffes, the album also features pieces by member Geoffrey Richardson, as well as a collaborative track with Ryuichi Sakamoto. A total of thirteen musicians contribute a wide range of instruments, while Japanese bassist Kuma Harada, also known as Tokiyoshi Harada, who has appeared on recordings by Ginger Baker & Friends, Jade Warrior and Annette Peacock, plays on two tracks. Filled with exotic colours that seem to sketch everyday scenes and landscapes from distant places, this is a highly original work of neo-classical, world-flavoured environmental music.
