A superb 1980 work by Peter Michael Hamel, composer and central figure of the forward-thinking German contemporary/ethnic music ensemble Between, and surely one of his finest recordings. Sound engineer Ulrich Kraus also takes part as a performer. Created solely with synthesizer and electric organ, the album unfolds as an intensely meditative sound world. Opening from deep synthesizer drones, it gradually shifts and expands as organ lines with an Eastern-tinged melodic sense intertwine with arpeggiated synth patterns full of tripped-out momentum, forming a slowly evolving mandala of sound. A psychedelic meditation music that shares a spiritual affinity with the universe of Terry Riley. With the A-side running over 22 minutes and the B-side over 18 minutes, this is a record that invites deep, patient listening and full immersion in sound.
