This album was released in 1986 by His Malombo Jazzmen, led by Philip Tabane, one of South Africa’s most iconic guitarists, who had a long and influential career starting in the early 1960s. A compilation selected from four of the five albums released between 1969 and 1983, this record showcases a uniquely deep and organic African jazz groove. Highlights include A3, where warm African percussion beats and earthy flute melodies create an irresistible groove, and B2, an intense track featuring raw, jungle-like percussion sounds and primal African chants. A truly outstanding album filled with an unparalleled sense of rhythm and style. Highly recommended.
